House Joint Resolution 667, sponsored by Hemmer, recognizes the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center at Radnor Lake on its tenth anniversary. Opened in 2015, this 550-foot boardwalk and aviary complex serves as the focal point for Tennessee State Parks' birds-of-prey programming, providing visitors with unique educational opportunities. The facility is wheelchair-accessible and allows for close observation of non-releasable birds of prey, which are housed there due to permanent injuries. The center features a variety of birds, including a great horned owl, a red-tailed hawk, a vulture, a golden eagle, and three bald eagles, all cared for in customized habitats.
The resolution highlights the collaborative efforts between the State of Tennessee and public-private partnerships that support the care and education of these birds. Radnor park staff receive training from Wings to Soar to enhance their skills in handling and caring for the birds, ensuring high-quality interpretive programs for the public. The resolution concludes by extending best wishes for the continued success of the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center, which has been a source of delight and education for visitors of all ages over the past decade.
