House Joint Resolution 667, sponsored by Hemmer, recognizes the Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center at Radnor Lake on its tenth anniversary. Opened in 2015, this 550-foot boardwalk and aviary complex serves as the focal point for Tennessee State Parks' birds-of-prey programming, providing visitors with unique educational opportunities. The facility is wheelchair-accessible and allows for close observation of non-releasable birds of prey, which are housed there due to permanent injuries. The center features seven birds, including a great horned owl, a red-tailed hawk, a vulture, a golden eagle, and three bald eagles, all cared for in customized habitats.
The resolution highlights the partnership between the State of Tennessee and the public in maintaining the aviary and emphasizes the ongoing training provided to park staff to ensure high-quality care for the birds and educational programs for the public. The Barbara J. Mapp Aviary Education Center has successfully delighted and educated visitors of all ages over the past decade, and the resolution extends best wishes for its continued success.
