Thompson, who served as the longest-active CEO in Tennessee, began his career with the cooperative in 1998 and became CEO in 2001. Under his leadership, Tri-County Electric implemented significant advancements, including automated metering and a NOAA Weather Radio Warning System, which earned the cooperative the Mark Trail Award in 2004. He also played a crucial role in expanding broadband and phone services to underserved areas.

In addition to his professional achievements, Thompson has been an active community member, serving as past president of the Macon County Chamber of Commerce and contributing to local development projects. He has received numerous accolades, including being named Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. The resolution expresses heartfelt wishes for Thompson's retirement and continued success in his future endeavors, highlighting his dedication to family, community, and professionalism throughout his career.
