House Joint Resolution 582, sponsored by Representative Littleton, honors and commends Ashland City's Troop B, 1st Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment of the Tennessee Army National Guard for their outstanding achievement in securing first place at the U.S. Army's 2024 Sullivan Cup Competition held at Fort Moore, Georgia. This prestigious competition, which occurs every two years, showcases the best M1 Abrams tank and Bradley crews from the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and allied nations, testing their maneuver, sustainment, and gunnery skills. The Troop B crew, consisting of Staff Sergeant David Riddick, Sergeant Joshua Owen, Specialist Noah Eddings, and Specialist Seth Carter, distinguished themselves by defeating ten other teams, including six from active-duty Army units and four from allied nations, making them the only National Guard unit to compete.
The resolution emphasizes the dedication, teamwork, and excellence of the soldiers and their leadership, reflecting the long-standing warrior ethos of the Tennessee Volunteer. It recognizes the personal sacrifices made by these soldiers to uphold the liberties enjoyed by citizens and brings pride to the state of Tennessee through their victory. The resolution concludes by extending best wishes for continued success to the members of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment and calls for an appropriate copy of the resolution to be prepared for presentation.
