House Joint Resolution 365, sponsored by Burkhart, honors the Kenwood High School unified bowling team for their remarkable achievement in winning the 2025 TSSAA Unified Bowling State Championship. This victory marks a significant milestone as Kenwood High School becomes the first school in Montgomery County to secure a state championship, whether in unified or traditional sports. The resolution highlights the team's impressive journey, which included winning the sectional tournament and earning the top seed for the state competition, as well as their commendable performance in the inaugural season of unified sports in Tennessee.
The resolution also acknowledges the dedication and leadership of head coaches Melissa Suss and Kellie Piche-Tatro, as well as the individual team members: Matthew Walls, Jerome Asbury, Sebastian Kelley, Karlos Ransom II, Elijah Farrior, and DaSean McFerrin. It emphasizes the values of social inclusion and collaboration fostered by unified sports, which brings together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities.
