Senate Joint Resolution 165, sponsored by Oliver, recognizes and commends the Jefferson Street Historical Society (JSHS) for its significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of Nashville's historic Jefferson Street. Founded in 2023 by Monchiere' Holmes-Jones and a group of local business leaders, JSHS is dedicated to revitalizing the area known as Nashville's Black Wall Street, which has a rich history of nearly 160 years and is home to numerous Black-owned businesses. JSHS has implemented a master plan to celebrate the street's historical significance and has engaged in beautification projects, history tours, and music and art festivals to enhance community involvement. Their efforts have garnered recognition, including a leadership award from Nashville's Metro Historic Zoning Commission. The resolution expresses the General Assembly's appreciation for JSHS's commitment to economic development, cultural preservation, and community engagement, wishing them continued success in their future endeavors.
