Senate Joint Resolution 165, sponsored by Oliver, honors the Jefferson Street Historical Society (JSHS) for its significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of Nashville's historic Jefferson Street, known as Black Wall Street. Founded in 2023 by Monchiere' Holmes-Jones and ten other local business leaders, JSHS is dedicated to revitalizing the area, which boasts nearly ninety Black-owned businesses and a rich cultural heritage spanning almost 160 years. The organization has developed a master plan to celebrate the street's musical roots and cultural significance while engaging the community through beautification projects, history tours, and festivals.
The resolution commends JSHS for its commitment to economic development and cultural preservation, recognizing its recent leadership award from Nashville's Metro Historic Zoning Commission for its efforts in celebrating Jefferson Street's musical heritage. The General Assembly expresses its appreciation for the society's work in enhancing community engagement and wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.
