House Joint Resolution 228, sponsored by Faison, recognizes and honors Victor Wooten, a legendary bassist known for his exceptional artistry and contributions to music. Born on September 11, 1964, near Boise, Idaho, and raised in a musical family, Wooten has been a prominent figure in the music industry since childhood. He gained fame as a founding member of the supergroup Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and has collaborated with numerous renowned artists across various genres. Wooten is a five-time Grammy Award winner and has been acknowledged as one of the greatest bass players of all time, receiving accolades such as Bass Player of the Year and a ranking in Rolling Stone's Top 10 Bassists of All Time.
In addition to his musical achievements, Wooten is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians through his music programs, including the "Bass/Nature camp" and teaching at Berklee College of Music. He has authored two books on music and spirituality and continues to inspire others with his philosophy that emphasizes the importance of being a good person alongside being a talented musician. The resolution expresses the General Assembly's appreciation for Wooten's contributions to the state of Tennessee and extends best wishes for his continued success.
