House Bill 1074 amends existing Tennessee law regarding prior authorization for healthcare services. The bill modifies Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-1-171, by deleting the previous subsection (b) and replacing it with a new requirement that healthcare providers must notify patients about any communication with their health insurance entity regarding prior authorization requests within seven calendar days. This notification must include a copy of the communication.

Additionally, the bill amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 56-6-705(a), by deleting subdivision (4) and substituting it with a provision that mandates utilization review organizations to inform enrollees if additional information is requested from healthcare providers for prior authorization and to include a copy of that communication. The changes aim to enhance transparency and communication between healthcare providers, patients, and insurance entities regarding prior authorization processes. The act will take effect upon becoming law.
