Senate Bill 249 amends Tennessee law to enhance state park discounts for veterans who are residents of Tennessee. The bill modifies Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 11-3-121(b)(1) by deleting the existing subdivision and replacing it with new provisions. These provisions require the commissioner to offer discounts for activities, retail purchases, camping, and lodging at state parks to veterans at the same rates as those offered to state employees. Additionally, a year-round discount of at least 50% for camping and overnight cabin lodging fees is mandated for veterans with a service-connected disability rated as 100% permanent total by the veterans' administration.
The bill also removes subdivision (b)(3) from Section 11-3-121 and adds a new subsection to Section 58-3-112, clarifying that the existing discount requirements for veterans are in addition to those specified in Section 11-3-121. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
