This bill requires that any complaint lodged against a law enforcement officer who is certified by the Tennessee peace officer standards and training commission must be in writing and signed by the complainant. This bill requires that any law enforcement officer who is certified by the commission must be given a signed copy of the complaint lodged against the officer within five days after the complaint is filed. No disciplinary action may be taken against the officer unless a copy of the signed complaint is given to the officer. Also, the officer may not be indefinitely suspended or terminated based on the subject matter of the complaint unless the complaint is investigated and there is evidence to prove the allegation of misconduct.
