HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1503

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Mike Morrow.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the passing of Mike Morrow; and WHEREAS, Mike Morrow was an exemplary public servant and consummate professional who provided solid leadership and thoughtful guidance for his fellow citizens as a career State of Tennessee finance official, in which capacity he served for nearly five decades;
and WHEREAS, Mr. Morrow served in the administrations of five Tennessee governors and directly worked with most of them; and WHEREAS, he began his illustrious career in public service as a fiscal officer in the governor's office in January 1975 and went on to become a fiscal director in the Department of
Employment Security during the administration of Governor Lamar Alexander; and WHEREAS, Mike Morrow then served in many fiscal and administrative positions in the Department of Finance and Administration, including as fiscal director, assistant commissioner,
deputy commissioner, and, during the last months of Governor Phil Bredesen's administration,
commissioner of finance and administration; and WHEREAS, he continued to serve with distinction as deputy commissioner during the administration of Governor Bill Haslam until taking a much-deserved retirement; and WHEREAS, many commissioners of finance and administration and several governors relied upon Mr. Morrow's sagacious advice and diligent work ethic in administering the department and overseeing fiscal operations throughout State government, as well as in the development of the State budget; and HJR1503

WHEREAS, Finance and Administration's division directors could always rely on Mike Morrow to make sure that they followed proper fiscal policies as they supervised their divisions;
and WHEREAS, throughout his illustrious tenure as a State of Tennessee finance official, Mr.
Morrow distinguished himself as a public-spirited citizen of the highest order and as an exceptional asset to his community; and WHEREAS, Mike Morrow was deeply devoted to his family, and he always endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; and WHEREAS, left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lou; two children, Katie and Ben Morrow; a grandson, Austin; and a future son-in-law, Jordon Hodge; and WHEREAS, Mr. Morrow leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in
public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all his chosen endeavors; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Mike Morrow, reflecting fondly upon his impeccable character and his stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Morrow.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
