SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1626

A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Sherry Thurman for thirty-five years of service with the Upper Cumberland Development District.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should specially recognize those estimable public servants who have dedicated their careers to improving the quality of life for their fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, Sherry Thurman is one such admirable person who has devoted thirty-five years of service to the Upper Cumberland Development District (UCDD); and WHEREAS, the UCDD was created by the General Assembly in 1969 to provide regional planning and assistance to Cannon, Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson,
Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Smith, Van Buren, Warren, and White counties; the regional cooperation and shared resources of the UCDD strengthen the fourteen counties and their municipalities; and WHEREAS, Ms. Thurman first joined UCDD in 1989 and served as a secretary for the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) program, which was replaced by the Workforce Investment Act in 1998; and WHEREAS, while working with JTPA, Ms. Thurman worked closely with the program's director and monitor, handling various tasks, such as typing reports and budgets and taking minutes for the JTPA policy council and the local elected officials board; and WHEREAS, today, she facilitates administrative duties and supports the various councils, committees, and boards of UCDD and the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA); and SJR1626

WHEREAS, known for building strong relationships with colleagues, Ms. Thurman serves as a trusted resource within the office, providing guidance and support to colleagues and assisting with developing and implementing processes that improve efficiency and productivity;
and WHEREAS, Ms. Thurman is a graduate of Jackson County High School, and she earned
a bookkeeping diploma from the former Livingston Vocational Technical School; over the years,
she has participated in numerous training sessions and has gained experience working within various departments at UCDD, which has enhanced her understanding of the programs offered;
and WHEREAS, beloved and treasured by the staff of both UCDD and UCHRA and the respective board members and representatives of both agencies, Ms. Thurman has found her niche within the Upper Cumberland Development District, having followed her passion to help and assist others; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Sherry Thurman for her thirty-five years of exemplary service with the Upper Cumberland Development District and extend to her our best wishes for continued success and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
