SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1622

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Curtis "Blue" Langdon Towns.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the passing of Curtis "Blue" Langdon Towns; and WHEREAS, Curtis Langdon Towns, affectionately known as "Blue," was a joyous and compassionate gentleman who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his family,
his friends, and his community in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, born in Senatobia, Mississippi, on June 16, 1936, Mr. Towns was the sixth of twelve children born to Slayton Towns and Mary Pearl Horton Towns; and WHEREAS, following a brief stay in Chicago in his young adult life, Curtis Towns returned home to Mississippi and began his career in construction with his cousin, Bill Eldridge;
and WHEREAS, Mr. Towns was a master brick mason and the owner of Towns Construction; a renowned entrepreneur in his community, he was admired for his expertise,
work ethic, and unyielding support, as he provided a number of jobs and taught young men in
the trade; and WHEREAS, a beloved father, grandfather, and uncle, Mr. Towns was deeply devoted to
his family and always endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; as a father, he was a guiding light to his daughters, instilling in them the values of integrity, hard work, humility, and empathy; and WHEREAS, Mr. Towns will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his daughters,
Jackie Polk, Alisa Gail, and Leticia Wynett; his grandchildren, Raevin (Courtney) Nixon and SJR1622

Aaron Langdon; his niece, whom he raised, Sabrina Nicole Wesby, and her sons, Ronnie and Michael; his brothers, Archie T. (Mary) Towns and Joseph Towns; his nephews, Percy Charles
(Charlene) Towns, James Clark, Jr., Ronald (Shelia) Towns, Bobby (Terri) Towns, Alphonso
(Shirley) Clark, Marvin Clark, Larry Clark, Bernard Clark, Anthony Caston, Gerald Caston,
Jerome Burt, Malcolm (Tanya) Burt, Darryl (Nedra) Towns, and Calvin Mitchell; his nieces,
Delane Clark, Marchelle Towns, Patricia Caston, Alfredia (Brian) Mitchell, Sandra Towns,
Deborah (Calvin) Mitchell, and Anita (Nolan) Nurse; his close cousins, Douglas Bobo, Philistine Bobo-Jackson, James Bobo, and Travis Bobo; his adopted sons, Tarik "Chuck" Thompson,
Patrick Carr, and Raphael Shaun Mitchell; and a host of great nieces and nephews, friends, and extended family; and WHEREAS, in addition to his parents, Curtis Towns was preceded in death by his siblings, Erma Lee Towns, Annette Towns, Slayton Towns, Mary Caston, Bunnie C. Clark, Dora Towns, Percy Towns, Savannah Wesby, and Agnes Burt; and WHEREAS, Curtis Towns professed his hope in Christ at an early age at his family's home church, Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Senatobia; and WHEREAS, in his leisure time, Mr. Towns enjoyed the company of his family and friends, fishing, and riding horses and motorcycles; and WHEREAS, the epitome of goodness and grace, Mr. Towns was a warm and dependable soul who impacted the lives of those who were blessed to know him, and he leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in public life, compassion, love, and loyalty in
private life, and diligence and dedication in all his chosen endeavors; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF

REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Curtis "Blue" Langdon Towns, reflecting fondly upon his impeccable character and his stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we extend our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Towns.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
