A RESOLUTION to honor John Garrett on winning the 2024
Bassmaster Elite Tournament on Harris Chain of
Lakes.
WHEREAS, this General Assembly takes great pleasure in recognizing a native Tennessean who has reached the very pinnacle of competitive fishing; and WHEREAS, John Garrett of Union City recently won the 2024 Bassmaster Elite Tournament on Harris Chain of Lakes in only his third Elite tournament appearance, a remarkable feat; and WHEREAS, John Garrett has been fishing ever since he was old enough to hold a pole,
having learned the sport from his grandfather, Johnnie Garrett; and WHEREAS, he has been involved in competitive fishing since 2012, when he helped found the bass fishing team at Obion County Central High School; and WHEREAS, one of his high school fishing buddies, Representative Rusty Grills, can attest to John Garrett's high-level fishing skills; and WHEREAS, Mr. Garrett received a scholarship from Bethel University and fished there from 2014 to 2019; he won the College Classic Bracket Tournament in 2016, which qualified him to fish the Bassmaster Classic in 2017; and WHEREAS, after fishing the Bassmaster Opens from 2020 to 2023, Mr. Garrett finally qualified to fish the Bassmaster Elites in 2024 and recently won the Elite tournament on Harris Chain of Lakes; and WHEREAS, John Garrett is grateful for the love, support, and encouragement he
receives from his wife, Morgan Garrett, who was his high school girlfriend; John and Morgan HJR1468

have been married for four years, and they have been blessed with a child, eight-month-old Blaire Garrett; and WHEREAS, John Garrett has distinguished himself as a true champion in the sport of
competitive fishing, and he is most worthy of our approbation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor and congratulate John Garrett on winning the 2024 Bassmaster Elite Tournament on Harris Chain of Lakes and extend to him our best wishes for continued success as an Elite fisherman, husband, and father.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
