SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1584
By Southerland
A RESOLUTION to honor Annette Watts of Greeneville High School on being named The Greeneville Sun's Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that this General Assembly should pay tribute to those excellent coaches who have led their teams to unprecedented success in athletic competition; and WHEREAS, Annette Watts, head coach of the Greeneville High School Lady Devils, has been named The Greeneville Sun's Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year; and WHEREAS, Coach Watts had lost five seniors and four starters to graduation from the previous year's team but yet still led the 2023-2024 Lady Devils to a state tournament berth, a most impressive feat; and WHEREAS, after starting the season with a less than stellar 5-10 record, the Lady Devils won ten of their next thirteen games under Coach Watts's leadership to finish the regular season at 15-13; and WHEREAS, although the team suffered defeat in the District 2 3A championship game,
Coach Watts reinvigorated the Lady Devils for regional competition, and they turned in a flawless performance; and WHEREAS, with Coach Watts providing guidance from the sideline, Greeneville defeated Tennessee High School, David Crockett High School, and Elizabethton High School to
win the regional title and earn a home game in the sectional round; and WHEREAS, the Lady Devils then bested Northview in overtime to earn a state tournament berth in what many had predicted would be a down year for the program; this accomplishment speaks volumes about Coach Watts's leadership and the drive and tenacity she inspired in her team; and SJR1584
