SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1570

A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Marie Courtney on the celebration of her 102nd birthday.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that we pay tribute to those citizens who are celebrating special occasions in their estimable lives; and WHEREAS, Marie Courtney celebrated her 102nd birthday on March 31, 2024, a milestone that was commemorated as yet another precious souvenir of life's rich pageant; and WHEREAS, born on March 31, 1922, in the Poor Valley area of Hawkins County, Ms.
Courtney is one of thirteen children who were born to Thomas Anderson Johnson and Julia Catherine Martin Johnson; and WHEREAS, during her working years, Marie Courtney was responsible for cleaning several local buildings, including Citizens Union Bank in Rogersville, Cherokee High School,
and Hawkins County Jail facilities; and WHEREAS, throughout her life, she has been blessed with the love of family, including her sons, Kenneth Wayne Courtney and Glen Allen Courtney, Sr.; her grandchildren, Tammy Courtney, Glen Allen Courtney, Jr., and the late Kevin Courtney; her great-grandchildren,
Matthew Courtney, Blake Renfro, Trey Courtney, and Abbie Courtney; and her great-great-
grandchildren, Mason Courtney and Addy Courtney; and WHEREAS, Ms. Courtney has many talents and passions, including gardening, visiting with her family and friends, and cooking "good country meals"; and WHEREAS, Marie Courtney is still a positive force for good, admired by many for her unwavering faith in the Lord, her kind spirit, and her dedication to her community and her family;

WHEREAS, we wish to grasp this golden opportunity to specially recognize one of
Tennessee's most outstanding citizens on this very special occasion; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we recognize and honor Marie Courtney on the celebration of her 102nd birthday and extend to her our best wishes for many happy returns of
the day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
