A RESOLUTION to commend Dr. Shane B. Scott upon his installation as pastor of First Baptist Church –
Capitol Hill in Nashville.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that we should honor those individuals who have answered
a divine call to the ministry and who have served with dedication, vigor, and enthusiasm to
perform God's work for their congregations and their communities; and WHEREAS, Dr. Shane B. Scott is one such committed minister of the Gospel, who will be installed as the new pastor of First Baptist Church – Capitol Hill in Nashville; and WHEREAS, Dr. Scott is a change agent, coalition builder, and community advisor, as well as a powerful and anointed messenger, teacher, and speaker, with a prophetic voice and unique perspective on Christian living; and WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, California, Dr. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Philosophy from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and a Master of
Divinity degree with an emphasis in Pastoral Care and Community Development from the American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley, California; and WHEREAS, he also earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from New York Theological Seminary in New York, New York, and holds a certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York; and WHEREAS, Dr. Shane Scott began his work in ministry as the youth minister of the historic Third Baptist Church of San Francisco and Youth & Young Adult Pastor of the Friendship Baptist Church in Vallejo, California; and WHEREAS, his most recent pastorate was as senior pastor of the historic Macedonia Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California; prior to that, he served as senior pastor of the Saint HJR1446

Rest Baptist Church in Fresno, California, where, under his leadership, the church experienced phenomenal spiritual growth, increased church membership, cultivated strategic partnerships,
and developed a Life Center that is an agent of change in the Fresno community; and WHEREAS, a much sought-after speaker for various events, Dr. Scott has brought his progressive message of hope to thousands of diverse populations as a keynote speaker for the Hip Hop Summit at California State University at Fresno, the NAACP Freedom Banquet, the Annual Martin Luther King March, the National Baptist Convention, the National Baptist Convention – Congress of Christian Education, and churches, community events, and conferences throughout North America; and WHEREAS, a leader of numerous professional social, and civic organizations, Dr.
Shane Scott is a proud life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., diamond life member of
the NAACP, active member of the National Urban League, voting delegate for the California State Democratic Party, vice president at-large of the California State Baptist convention,
advisory board member of the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, member of the Gateways Mental Health Hospital Foundation Board, and community engagement contributor to local pediatric health organizations; and WHEREAS, he has further served as a board member of the VEDC Entrepreneur Center, on the Central Valley New Market Tax Credit Board, on the Drew Child Development Corporation Board of Directors, and as a member of the EXIM Council on Small Business; he has served as advisor to countless political and business leaders throughout the state of
California and even galvanized the largest town hall meeting—mobilizing the city of Fresno to
deal with the issue of violence; and WHEREAS, throughout his many worthy endeavors, Dr. Scott has been blessed with the love and support of his wife, Da'Vet Scott, and their children, Savannah Grace, Lily Simone, and Shane Bernard II; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Scott is passionate about offering diverse groups a meaningful lens for examining and empowering their lives while motivating changed people to change the world;
and WHEREAS, it is wholly fitting that we recognize this dynamic preacher, talented teacher,
and inspiring leader on this auspicious occasion; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we commend and congratulate Dr. Shane B. Scott upon his installation as
pastor of First Baptist Church – Capitol Hill in Nashville, extending our best wishes for his success and happiness in all future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
