HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1441

A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Barbara Frazier for her contributions to the State of Tennessee.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should salute those citizens who, through their extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as community leaders of whom we can all be proud; and WHEREAS, one such noteworthy person is Barbara Frazier, a highly respected member of her community who has dedicated herself to improving the quality of life for her fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, a career educator, Ms. Frazier is the executive principal of Gower Elementary School in Nashville and has served with Metro Nashville Public Schools since 1986;
and WHEREAS, born in Nashville, Barbara Frazier is a graduate of Pearl High School where she was a star athlete in track and field and went on to win acclaim as a member of the world famous Tigerbelles during her time as a student athlete at Tennessee State University (TSU);
and WHEREAS, in recognition of her athletic success, Barbara Frazier was inducted into the TSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992 and was also inducted into the Metro Nashville Public Schools Sports Hall of Fame in 2006; and WHEREAS, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Tennessee State University and a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Trevecca Nazarene University; and WHEREAS, Ms. Frazier began her illustrious career with Metro Nashville Public Schools as a teacher at Tom Joy Elementary in 1986; she spent sixteen years at Tom Joy, during which HJR1441

time she was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1986 and a Golden Apple Teacher in 1987;
and WHEREAS, during her tenure at Tom Joy Elementary, she entered the coaching ranks in 1987, serving as an assistant coach at Pearl-Cohn High School for five years before moving on to Meigs Magnet Middle School to become a head coach; and WHEREAS, at Meigs, Ms. Frazier coached volleyball and track and started the first girls'
basketball program, developing the school into a powerhouse in all three athletic program arenas over the next seven years; and WHEREAS, during her tenure at Meigs, she was named Coach of the Year several times and also coached her elementary school for several years in the Police Athletic League track program; she also served as an assistant track coach at Maplewood High School and as
an assistant basketball coach at Hunters Lane High School; and WHEREAS, in 2002, Barbara Frazier became a school administrator at the building level when she was named Executive Principal of Hermitage Elementary School, where she remained until taking her current post at Gower Elementary School in 2012; and WHEREAS, Ms. Frazier serves as an inspiration to her colleagues and students alike,
and her friendship and counsel are highly valued by those who are fortunate to know her; and WHEREAS, Barbara Frazier truly epitomizes the dedicated educator who is wholly committed to the highest ideals of public service and quality education for all, and she should be
specially recognized; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Barbara Frazier for her exceptional service to the children of Tennessee, salute her professional expertise and personal excellence, and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
