SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1526

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of David N. Brady of
Putnam County.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should honor the memory of those dedicated public servants who devoted themselves to improving the quality of life for their fellow Tennesseans;
and WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the passing of David N. Brady; and WHEREAS, a Tennessee native, David N. Brady was born in 1954 and grew up in Putnam County; and WHEREAS, after earning his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of
Tennessee at Chattanooga, Mr. Brady graduated from the University of Tennessee College of
Law in 1980 and was then admitted to the practice of law; and WHEREAS, in military service to his country, David Brady was commissioned as a captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Army from 1981 to 1984,
honorably serving as a military prosecutor and a special assistant United States Attorney; and WHEREAS, upon returning to Putnam County from his military service, Mr. Brady became a respected member of the legal profession; he practiced law as an associate with the law firm of Flatt & Jared, engaging in general civil practice and criminal defense practice, and also served as Algood city attorney; and WHEREAS, recognized for his legal acumen and high moral standards, Mr. Brady was appointed in 1989 by Governor Ned McWherter to serve as the first district public defender for the Thirteenth Judicial District; and SJR1526

WHEREAS, Mr. Brady served as district public defender for twenty-five years, and this service to his community was marked with distinction, honor and integrity; and WHEREAS, Mr. Brady was known for his decency, kindness toward others, and personal integrity; he developed a well-earned reputation as a "lawyer's lawyer" and was an
example to others in the legal profession; and WHEREAS, Mr. Brady was a lifelong learner and an avid reader and was known throughout the community for having an encyclopedic knowledge of military history; and WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Mr. Brady is survived by his beloved wife, Kay Brady;
his sons, John P. Brady and David M. (Catherine) Carter; his daughter, Fiona (Brian) Hardy; his brother, Robert V. (Gail) Brady; and his cherished grandchildren, Finn B. Hardy and Roland A.
Hardy; and WHEREAS, respected and admired by his many friends and colleagues, David Brady took great pride in making the Upper Cumberland and Tennessee a better place for all; and WHEREAS, Mr. Brady leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all his chosen endeavors; and WHEREAS, the Volunteer State, and specifically the Upper Cumberland, will miss Mr.
Brady's professionalism, his wise counsel, and his devotion to the cause of justice; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of David N. Brady, reflecting fondly upon his impeccable character as a public servant and human being and commending his stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Brady.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
