HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1417

A RESOLUTION to recognize and commend the members of
Crossroads Community Church.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that we should recognize those venerable religious institutions and their congregations that, through their unflagging capacity for love, dedication of
spirit, and faith in God, enrich the lives of people in their communities; and WHEREAS, Crossroads Community Church is one such entity, a devoted congregation of faith and hope that has served its community since 2005; and WHEREAS, on the evening of September 23, 2004, the inception of Crossroads Community Church began with a meeting amongst Rick and Susan Clevenger, and their daughter, Chelsea; Mark and Stephanie Clevenger, and their children, Kristyn, Damon, and Kourtney; Scott and Cynthia Clevenger, and their son, Kyal; Margie Hardin; Trish Rone; Tony and Kaye Heavner, and their daughter, Kaci; Angie Johnson and her daughter, Keri; Jessica and Casey Hicks, and their children, Skyller and Sierra; Brian and Kristin Tocholke; Dan and Teresa Hickson; and Ed and Janice Jenkins; and WHEREAS, the group met each week for six months, planning and praying for direction in the type of church God wanted them to become; and WHEREAS, with Rick Clevenger serving as the founding pastor, the congregation at
Crossroads Community Church found its first home at the Newport Cinema 4, and on March 27,
2005, the church commenced with two preview services, of which upwards of twenty people attended; and WHEREAS, Crossroads Community Church officially launched on Easter Sunday in
2005 with seventy-three people in attendance, including the twelve original members; and HJR1417

WHEREAS, following the housing market crisis in 2008, the Newport Cinema 4 faced financial hardships and closed in 2010 for a year; although the theater officially closed its doors on July 31, 2023, Crossroads Community Church secured financing and purchased the building in the fall of 2023; and WHEREAS, Crossroads Community Church has continuously poured itself into the community through service events that reach every demographic and mission trips to Central and South America and Africa; and WHEREAS, since its inception, Crossroads Community Church has stood on the rock-
solid foundation of Christian belief, service, and love, serving as a bastion of faith and outreach to the people of its community and beyond; and WHEREAS, Crossroads Community Church is truly one of the great religious institutions and catalysts for positive spiritual change in our State and nation, and its members should be
appropriately honored for their exemplary service to their fellow Christians and to the good people of Tennessee; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor and commend the members of Crossroads Community Church,
extending to this exceptional congregation our best wishes for much continued success in
performing God's work.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
