SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1505

A RESOLUTION to commemorate the dedication of the memorial to the victims of the Waverly flood on August
21st, a Day of Remembrance.
WHEREAS, on August 21, 2021, one of the deadliest floods ever to hit Tennessee devastated the city of Waverly and portions of the surrounding area; and WHEREAS, on that fateful day, the water rose rapidly across Humphreys, Dickson,
Hickman, and Houston counties as torrential rains fell, with Humphreys County receiving a historic 17.06 inches of rain; and WHEREAS, the city of Waverly suffered catastrophic flooding, with vast swaths of the community washed away in the flood waters, and twenty individuals lost their lives due to the rampaging water that reached an unprecedented level; and WHEREAS, this year, as the residents of Waverly continue to recover, they have taken action to pay tribute to those who lost their lives that day with the erection of a memorial to the victims of the flood; and WHEREAS, the Waverly memorial will honor the lives of Linda Almond, James Michael Betty, Donna Bradley, Regenia Brake, Lilly Bryant, Kellen Cole Burrow Vaughn, Lucy Lane Connor, Hallie Gerber, Joshua Hendrix, Mark Kee, Leslie Jean Meek Kersten, Scott Kilburn,
Mary Luten, Amber Newman, Joe Reeves, Rileigh Rigney, Ryan Rigney, Robin Shawl, Wayne Spears, and Nathanal Whitsett; and WHEREAS, most appropriately, the date of August 21st will be observed as a Day of
Remembrance in Waverly; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF

REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we hereby commemorate the dedication of the memorial to the victims of the Waverly flood and join with the residents of Waverly as they observe August 21st as a Day of Remembrance.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
