HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1411

A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Lianna Derryberry of
Lawrenceburg for her contributions to the State of Tennessee.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should salute those citizens who, through their extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as community leaders of whom we can all be proud; and WHEREAS, one such noteworthy person is Lianna Derryberry, a highly respected member of her community who has dedicated herself to improving the quality of life for her fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, a proud Tennessean, Mrs. Derryberry was the spark that led to the introduction of legislation to adopt the new, additional state motto of "Send Me" for the State of
Tennessee; and WHEREAS, her inspiration for the new motto came from Isaiah 6:8, which says, "And I
heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?' Then I said,
'Here I am! Send me.'"; and WHEREAS, born in Columbia, Lianna Derryberry currently resides in Lawrenceburg with her husband, Cody, and their daughter Avonlea; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Derryberry received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of
Tennessee Southern, her Master of Arts degree from the University of Mississippi, and her Educational Specialist degree from Trevecca University; and WHEREAS, currently a teacher at Mt. Pleasant High School, Mrs. Derryberry has taught Tennesseans for the past thirteen years as an English/Language Arts teacher but considers it
her personal responsibility to educate her students on history and our past; and HJR1411

WHEREAS, she seeks to motivate her students to persevere, achieve, and dream big;
she is focused on growing as a servant-minded leader; and WHEREAS, beloved by her students, who nominated her several years in a row as an "I
Made a Difference" honoree, Lianna Derryberry is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Professional Educators of Tennessee; and WHEREAS, Lianna Derryberry epitomizes the true spirit of a Tennessean and is a wonderful example of our new State Motto, "Send Me"; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Lianna Derryberry for her service to her community and the State of Tennessee and extend to her our best wishes for much continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
