HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1393

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of George Franklin Wright of Soddy Daisy.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the passing of George Franklin Wright; and WHEREAS, George Wright was a highly respected member of his community and a consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wright served with acumen and alacrity as the owner and operator of
George Wright Construction, in which capacity he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients alike for the exemplary quality of his work; and WHEREAS, a Soddy Daisy native, George Wright was born on June 3, 1955, to Hoyt and Helen Wright and graduated from Soddy Daisy High School in 1973; and WHEREAS, in July 1974, Mr. Wright married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Patricia Beene; and WHEREAS, George Wright began his successful career in construction by framing houses; after receiving his Tennessee General Contractors license in 1985, he founded George Wright Construction; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wright built numerous houses and commercial buildings during his career as a contractor; he also developed a number of subdivisions in Soddy Daisy; and WHEREAS, an esteemed member of his profession, George Wright was a longtime member of the Homebuilders Association of Greater Chattanooga; he also served on the association's board of directors for many years, in addition to serving as its president in 2004;
and WHEREAS, wholly dedicated to his community, Mr. Wright supported and sponsored many local community and school activities; Mayor Steve Everett recognized the valuable HJR1393

services George Wright had provided to Soddy Daisy by proclaiming November 16, 2023, as
"George Wright Day" in Soddy Daisy; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wright was an avid golfer and loved making memories wherever he
went; he was a supporter of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team and knew just about everyone in Soddy Daisy; and WHEREAS, in addition to his loving wife of fifty years, Patricia Wright, George Wright is
survived by his sister, Darlene (Jim) Varner; brothers, Don (Gaila) and Ron (Linda); and several nieces and nephews; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents; and WHEREAS, George Wright leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in
public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all his chosen endeavors; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of George Franklin Wright, reflecting fondly upon his impeccable character and his stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Wright.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
