HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1378

A RESOLUTION to recognize Denise Miller Geminden on the occasion of her retirement.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that we should honor those citizens who have performed with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm throughout their careers in public service; and WHEREAS, one such exceptional individual is Denise Miller Geminden, who has distinguished herself as a professional of the greatest dedication, ability, and integrity; and WHEREAS, after more than four decades of service with the City of Portland, Denise Geminden will soon take her much-deserved retirement; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Geminden began her illustrious career with the City of Portland in
1972, working for then-Mayor Fred White following her graduation from Portland High School;
and WHEREAS, leaving her full-time position to be a stay-at-home mother for several years,
she returned to work in a part-time capacity for the City of Portland in 1977, where she served as secretary to then-Community Development Director Fred White until his retirement in 1997;
and WHEREAS, following Mr. White's retirement, Denise Geminden was named Community Development Director, her ultimate position with the city and from which position she will take her much-deserved retirement; and WHEREAS, during her tenure with the City of Portland, the community changed drastically from an agricultural-based economy to now being known for its numerous industrial and warehousing operations, which have used numerous state and federal grants and loan programs to assist in bringing these operations to the community; and WHEREAS, under her leadership, the Community Development unit was actively involved in establishing the Education Foundation, obtaining Three-Star certification, numerous HJR1378

upgrades to the Portland Airport/Larry Collins Business Center, and acquiring and restoring the Moye-Green House and Temple Theatre; and WHEREAS, her many professional accomplishments aside, Denise Geminden is most thankful for the love and support of her husband, Billy Geminden; her two daughters, Julianne and Amy; and her three grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Denise Geminden exemplifies the spirit and allegiance to family and community that are characteristic of a true Tennessean; and WHEREAS, throughout her estimable career, Mrs. Geminden has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability, and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of
her colleagues and the citizens she has so ably served; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we extend to Denise Miller Geminden our heartfelt wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement, offering our deepest gratitude for her distinguished service to the City of
Portland and wishing her every continued success in her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
