SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1495

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Betty Ann Goodall of
Gallatin.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the passing of Betty Ann Goodall of Gallatin; and WHEREAS, Betty Ann Goodall was a kind and faithful woman who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for her family, her friends, and her community in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, the daughter of Mayor Isaac Perkins Yancey and Laura Garnett Drake Yancey, Mrs. Goodall was raised in Somerville alongside her brother, Billy Perkins Yancey; and WHEREAS, Betty Goodall was a 1951 graduate of Fayette County High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History from Vanderbilt University in 1955;
during her collegiate career, she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and named to the Vanderbilt Homecoming Court; and WHEREAS, she met the love of her life, Robert Harden Goodall, at Vanderbilt University and married him on June 12, 1955, in Somerville; the happy couple enjoyed sixty-eight years of
marriage; and WHEREAS, while her husband was stationed with the U.S. Army, Betty Goodall taught English at Washington State University; they later returned to Tennessee and settled in Sumner County, where she taught English in Nashville and Sumner County secondary schools; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Goodall also worked in her husband's law office as a legal secretary and transitioned to the family business, building homes for first-time homebuyers in Sumner County; and SJR1495

WHEREAS, Betty Goodall poured herself into her community through various organizations, including the Gallatin women's study club, which she served as a member and former president; First United Methodist Church in Gallatin as a past Sunday school teacher and board member; and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR)
General Jethro Sumner Chapter as a former Regent of Colonel; and WHEREAS, Betty Goodall was a member of the Centennial Club, the NSDAR James Robertson Chapter, and the Nashville Chapter of the Colonial Dames of America; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Goodall was also deeply devoted to her family and always endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; and WHEREAS, in addition to her beloved husband, she will be sadly mourned but fondly remembered by her children, Laura Yancey Goodall (Charlie) Niewold and Robert "Bob" Harden
(Karen) Goodall, Jr.; her grandchildren, Hillary Goodall (Griffin) Bonham, Ann Ralls Niewold
(Jerrod) Brown, and William Thomas Goodall III; her great-grandchildren, Fiona Bonham,
Graham Bonham, Laura Brown, and Timms Brown; and her cherished nieces and nephews,
Adam Drake (Laura) Yancey, Katherine Goodall (Keith) Crosthwaite; David Christian (Linell)
Goodall, Lee Goodall (Jon) Abernathy, and Robbie Goodall (Harold) Boman; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we hereby honor the memory of Betty Ann Goodall,
reflecting fondly upon her impeccable character and her stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Goodall.
