SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1488

A RESOLUTION to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee.
WHEREAS, this General Assembly takes great pleasure in recognizing a worthy organization that promotes family self-sufficiency and independent living for low-income and other vulnerable people through the caring and efficient delivery of needed services; and WHEREAS, founded by Knox County and the City of Knoxville in 1964, the Knoxville-
Knox County Community Action Committee (K-KC CAC) is still deeply committed to upholding its motto: Helping People and Changing Lives; and WHEREAS, over the past six decades, K-KC CAC has responded to local needs in
every corner of the county through a comprehensive range of federal, state, and locally funded programs that build communities, service families, and provide opportunities for low-income people; and WHEREAS, K-KC CAC is locally governed by a diverse group of citizens who represent the people served by the committee; and WHEREAS, one of K-KC CAC's most successful programs is Mobile Meals, which combats hunger and isolation among seniors in the community; and WHEREAS, every weekday, 100 volunteers deliver nutritious meals and provide daily safety checks to 1,100 seniors across Knox County who are unable to cook and have no one to
prepare meals for them; and WHEREAS, each year, K-KC CAC participates in the national March for Meals campaign to raise awareness about the valuable services the organization provides to local homebound seniors; and SJR1488

WHEREAS, in 2024, the March for Meals event will include a celebration of sixty years of community action in Knoxville and Knox County; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee, commend the organization and its board members, staff, and volunteers for their ongoing commitment to helping our low-income and vulnerable citizens attain self-sufficiency and caring for our seniors through meal delivery and welfare checks, and extend to them our best wishes for much continued success in making Tennessee an even better place to live.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
