HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1376

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Nicolas "Nick" Duke of
Eagleville.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the passing of Nicolas "Nick" Duke; and WHEREAS, Mr. Duke was an exemplary public servant and consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, born in Goeppingen, Germany, Nick Duke was the son of Joseph Edward Duke and Sylvia Faul Duke; his family moved to Madison, Indiana, and after graduating from high school, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indiana State University; and WHEREAS, Mr. Duke enjoyed a fruitful career as a mechanical engineer while also indulging his passion for playing golf, bowling, shooting, and watching sporting events; and WHEREAS, committed to being a positive force in his community, Nick Duke served on
the City of Eagleville's Planning Commission from 2005 until the time of his passing, having served as vice chairman in 2007 and chairman in 2008; and WHEREAS, he remained chairman of the Planning Commission until his death and was
a staunch advocate for proper city planning; he also served on the Design Review and Long-
Range Planning committees, chairing both, and under his leadership, a new Master Plan and a new Zoning Ordinance were adopted, and Eagleville's urban growth boundary was established;
and WHEREAS, he was also deeply devoted to his family and always endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; and HJR1376

WHEREAS, left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of twenty years, Carrie Hancock Duke; his children, Nicole Rose Duke and William Nicolas (Andrea) Duke; his mother,
Sylvia Faul Duke; and two brothers, Alex (Juli) Duke and Ben (Jennifer) Duke; and WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edward Duke; and WHEREAS, Nick Duke leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all his chosen endeavors; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
remember the bountiful life of this exceptional human being; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Nicolas "Nick" Duke, reflecting fondly upon his impeccable character and his stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Duke.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
