SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1484

A RESOLUTION to recognize Derek Adam Webber upon attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
WHEREAS, at a time when this nation's youth face difficult challenges, the Boy Scouts of America is one of our finest assets, providing young men and women with an educational program that contributes significantly to their character development, citizenship training, and improved mental and physical fitness; and WHEREAS, the highest rank a Scout can attain in the Boy Scouts of America Scouts BSA program is that of Eagle Scout, and Derek Adam Webber, after considerable effort and diligent preparation, will join the prestigious Eagle Court of Honor; and WHEREAS, a senior at Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts, Mr. Webber began his Scouting journey in the first grade as a Cub Scout; and WHEREAS, Derek Webber has been a member of Boy Scout Troop 166 for more than six years, and his notable record of achievement includes numerous merit badges and distinguished service as a leader among his peers; he has served as a patrol leader, a librarian,
and a bugler, as well as a crew leader for his backpacking group at Philmont Scout Ranch in
New Mexico; and WHEREAS, Mr. Webber's Eagle project greatly contributed to the betterment of his community and reflected the true spirit of volunteerism; and WHEREAS, for his project, he worked alongside the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park to refurbish and repaint select signs at the Cravens House, Point Park,
and outside of the main visitor center; with the help of thirty-one volunteers, his project was completed after 183 hours of work and before the park's 160th anniversary; and SJR1484

WHEREAS, in addition to Boy Scouts, Mr. Webber participates in extracurricular activities including archery, jazz band, wind ensemble, chamber music, Model United Nations,
and Destination Imagination; he also plays tennis, basketball, and ultimate frisbee; and WHEREAS, a young leader in his community, Derek Webber dedicates his time and talents to several local organizations, including the Chattanooga Food Bank, the Southern Off-
Road Bicycle Association of Chattanooga, and the Chattanooga River Clean Up Program; and WHEREAS, Mr. Webber plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga,
study environmental science, and pursue a career in pollution mitigation; and WHEREAS, his noteworthy achievement is a tremendous source of pride for his parents,
Bret Webber and Dianna Webber, his school, and his community, and it is appropriate that we
should pause to recognize Derek Webber as one of the most outstanding young people in our State; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we hereby honor and congratulate Derek Adam Webber on becoming an Eagle Scout and extend to him our best wishes for every future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
