A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Harriman High School upon its receipt of the Secretary of State's Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level Award.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pay tribute to
those public schools in Tennessee that, through the unflagging commitment to excellence evidenced by their administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents, have achieved significant milestones; and WHEREAS, Harriman High School in Roane County is one such school, which recently earned the Secretary of State's Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level Award by registering 100
percent of its eligible students who are eighteen years of age or older to vote; and WHEREAS, last fall, Deb Stout, the U.S. History and Government teacher at Harriman High School, took measures to register the school's potential voters when she invited the Roane County Election Commission to walk students through the process; in March, the news was received that Harriman High School was one of only thirty-two high schools in the State that would be awarded the Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Award, as 100 percent of the school's eligible voters were registered for the March primary; and WHEREAS, the Secretary of State's office launched the Anne Dallas Dudley Award program for the 2021-2022 school year to promote voter registration among Tennessee high school students; and WHEREAS, those high schools that register 100 percent of their eligible students earn the Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level Award, while high schools that register at least eighty-five percent of their eligible students earn the Anne Dallas Dudley Silver Level Award; and HJR1360

WHEREAS, all Tennessee public, charter, or private schools or home school associations can participate in the Anne Dallas Dudley Award program; this year, fifty-one high schools in forty counties across the State earned the Anne Dallas Dudley Award by meeting student voter registration thresholds; and WHEREAS, the Anne Dallas Dudley Award is part of the Secretary of State's civics engagement initiative to increase voter registration in Tennessee and prepare students to be actively engaged citizens; and WHEREAS, the award is named in honor of renowned Tennessee suffragist Anne Dallas Dudley, who helped lead the successful effort to get the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution ratified; on August 18, 1920, Tennessee became the thirty-sixth and final state needed to give women the right to vote; and WHEREAS, Harriman High School's receipt of this award is a tremendous source of
pride for the administration, teachers, students, and parents of the community; and WHEREAS, the dedication to civic engagement demonstrated by all the fine individuals affiliated with Harriman High School is clearly deserving of our respect, admiration, and commendation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor and congratulate Harriman High School on its receipt of the Secretary of State's Anne Dallas Dudley Gold Level Award, salute the school's administration,
faculty, staff, students, and parents on this significant achievement, and extend to them our best wishes for continued success in the future.
