SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1481

A RESOLUTION to honor Charles M. Traughber, Jr., upon his service as Chairman of the Tennessee Ethics Commission.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly take great pleasure in recognizing a gentleman who has dedicated fifty-five years of his life to the State of Tennessee as a public servant of the highest order; and WHEREAS, Charles M. Traughber, Jr., served for more than forty years in State government, beginning his criminal justice career as an institutional counselor in the Department of Correction in 1969; and WHEREAS, Mr. Traughber next became director of counselors and then was selected as one of the charter members of the full-time Board of Parole; and WHEREAS, Charles M. Traughber, served as Chairman of the Board of Parole from
1972-1976, 1977-1979, and 1988-2013, when he retired; and WHEREAS, all told, he served as Chairman of the Board of Parole for thirty years; and WHEREAS, during his outstanding tenure, Mr. Traughber also worked on the Tennessee Sentencing Commission and on various other committees addressing prison capacity issues and the criminal justice system; and WHEREAS, after retiring from State government, Mr. Traughber embarked upon another career in public service when he was appointed to the Tennessee Ethics Commission by
Governor Bill Haslam in 2013; and WHEREAS, twice reappointed by Governor Bill Lee, Mr. Traughber has worked with purpose and commitment to sustain the public's confidence in government by increasing the SJR1481

integrity and transparency of state and local government through the regulation of lobbying activities, financial disclosure requirements, and ethical conduct; and WHEREAS, Mr. Traughber will complete his term as Chairman of the Ethics Commission in 2024; and WHEREAS, Charles Traughber has exemplified integrity and honesty throughout his tenure on the Ethics Commission, and he is most worthy of our approbation as he lays down the gavel; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Charles M. Traughber, Jr.,
upon his exemplary service as Chairman of the Tennessee Ethics Commission and thank him for his fifty-five years of service to the Volunteer State in numerous capacities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
