SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1434

A RESOLUTION to commend Jaya Eskridge for exemplary service as a legislative intern.
WHEREAS, each legislative session, this General Assembly is pleased to recognize certain persons who have committed themselves, through their adroit service, to the betterment of the legislative process; and WHEREAS, Jaya Eskridge is one such individual who has distinguished herself in her role as a legislative intern for Senator Charlane Oliver; her work has resulted in innumerable benefits for the legislators she assisted and the General Assembly as a whole; and WHEREAS, born in Nashville, Ms. Eskridge is the daughter of Elizabeth Eskridge, and she graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 2020 at Stratford STEM Magnet High School;
and WHEREAS, a student at Tennessee State University (TSU), where she is highly regarded by her peers, Jaya Eskridge has achieved academic success while pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science; and WHEREAS, during her collegiate career, Ms. Eskridge has been involved in several extracurricular activities, including Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International; Student Democracy Network; and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society; and WHEREAS, she was a member of the 2022 State Champion Moot Court team at TSU,
for which she served as team captain and was named "Best Brief Writer"; additionally, she has made Dean's List for four consecutive years in recognition of her academic excellence; and WHEREAS, with a keen interest in political research, Ms. Eskridge was named the 2024
Political Science Major of the Year; her focus is on social justice, voting, and political literacy,
and she plans to attend Belmont University College of Law following graduation; and SJR1434

WHEREAS, eager to familiarize herself with the characteristics and complexities of
Tennessee State government and to further her studies, Jaya Eskridge brought her many abilities and singular expertise to Capitol Hill for the 2024 session of the One Hundred Thirteenth General Assembly; and WHEREAS, throughout the 2024 legislative session, Ms. Eskridge has surpassed all criteria that define a devoted and conscientious legislative intern; and WHEREAS, Jaya Eskridge has performed her many duties with extraordinary insight and rare decorum; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we hereby commend Jaya Eskridge for outstanding service as a legislative intern for Senator Charlane Oliver and extend to her our best wishes for every future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
