HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1350

A RESOLUTION to recognize and commend Ethan Kenneth DuMont of Franklin.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should recognize those young Tennesseans who selflessly serve their communities, making them better places to
live, work, and play; and WHEREAS, one such individual is Ethan K. DuMont, a senior at Page High School and an avid practitioner of the martial art Kajukenbo; and WHEREAS, Kajukenbo is the first American mixed martial art and was founded in
Hawaii; combining elements of Karate, Judo, Jujutsu, Kenpo, and boxing, as well as Filipino stick fighting, Kajukenbo has expanded quickly across the globe since its inception; and WHEREAS, the study of the martial arts has led to the growth of self-discipline,
confidence, and self-defense in countless individuals; and WHEREAS, Mr. DuMont honors his system and his instructors through a documentary he produced titled Beyond the Dojo: The Family, The Art, and the Legacy of Kajukenbo; and WHEREAS, the man who honors his teacher honors himself, and through his actions,
Ethan DuMont has indeed brought honor to himself through honoring his system and his teachers; and WHEREAS, Beyond the Dojo has been nominated for three Emmy awards in the categories of best writer, best director, and best nonfiction; the film has also been nominated for an award for best documentary in Williamson County Schools; and WHEREAS, it is our privilege to honor one of Tennessee's most outstanding young people at this time; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that recognize and commend Ethan Kenneth DuMont upon his prestigious award nominations and wish him the best in his academic career, his pursuit of filmmaking, and his continued journey in the martial arts and Kajukenbo.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
