A RESOLUTION to designate August 11, 2024, as "Sheriff Eddie Tester Day".
WHEREAS, Eddie Tester had served with distinction as Sheriff of Johnson County for five years (2018-2023) prior to his sudden and untimely passing on August 11, 2023; and WHEREAS, a native of Mountain City, Eddie Tester pursued a career in public service,
and he embraced several roles that underscored his dedication to the safety and well-being of
his community; and WHEREAS, he served Johnson County as a dispatcher and deputy sheriff before joining the Tennessee Highway Patrol; and WHEREAS, after serving as a State Trooper for eighteen years, he was elected Sheriff of Johnson County in 2018 and reelected in 2022; and WHEREAS, Sheriff Tester was among the pioneering class of paramedics, having completed training at Tri-Cities State Tech in Blountville; he was a volunteer and an employee who dedicated years to the Johnson County Rescue Squad as an emergency medical technician before becoming a paramedic; and WHEREAS, he further served his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Town of
Mountain City and the Trade Volunteer Fire Department; additionally, he played a key role in
facilitating gun safety and active shooter classes and contributed to constable training; and WHEREAS, Sheriff Tester was truly a peerless law enforcement officer, paramedic,
firefighter, and firearms instructor, and it is fitting that we pay homage to his distinguished career by dedicating the day he passed away to his enduring legacy and memory; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE

CONCURRING, that August 11, 2024, is designated as "Sheriff Eddie Tester Day" as a tribute to the purposeful life of this dedicated law enforcement and public safety professional.
