ON APRIL 9, 2024, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 2929, AS AMENDED.
AMENDMENT #1 rewrites the bill to, instead, require the department of children's services, county medical examiners, chief medical examiners, and facilities that perform autopsies to establish policies and procedures for the prioritization of the completion of final autopsy reports for fatalities of (i) any child in the custody of the department; (ii) any child who is the subject of an ongoing investigation by child protective services or has been the subject of an investigation by child protective services within the 45 days immediately preceding the child's fatality or near fatality; or (iii) any child whose fatality or near fatality resulted in an investigation of the safety and well-being of another child in the home.
