ON APRIL 1, 2024, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 2367, AS AMENDED.
AMENDMENT #1 rewrites the bill to, instead, do the following:
(1) Authorize a health facility to establish policies pursuant to which a suitable number of persons may be employed, commissioned, or contracted through a private third party, as police officers, public safety officers, and security officers by the facility. The chief law enforcement officer of the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction over the facility must appoint each police officer who is employed, commissioned, or contracted through a private third party a special deputy, or appoint the police officer a special police officer; and
(2) When properly commissioned and qualified in accordance with the policies of a facility, require a police officer or privately contracted third-party personnel deputized as a special deputy to have all the police powers necessary to enforce all state laws as well as rules and regulations of the facility.
