HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 7056

A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Valerie C. Ford for her honorable service to the State of Tennessee.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should specially recognize those estimable public servants who have dedicated themselves to improving the quality of life for their fellow citizens in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, Valerie C. Ford is one such person, who has rendered years of
distinguished military service and public service alike; and WHEREAS, with a heart given to helping others and living to exemplify the cause of
Christ and His kingdom, Mrs. Ford has dedicated thousands of hours as a volunteer and selflessly contributed to the betterment of her community and this State; and WHEREAS, Valerie Ford received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Connecticut and enlisted in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade Nurse Officer, in which position she served at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda,
Maryland; and WHEREAS, she ended her naval career as a Lieutenant Commander, having earned the respect of her peers and commanders alike for the superior quality of her work; and WHEREAS, Valerie Ford later became active as a police department volunteer,
contributing numerous hours of service to the welfare of the department as a uniform seamstress and assisting with the department accreditation program; and WHEREAS, she went on to become a reserve police officer, a most fitting position that recognized her dedication to community service and safety; and HJR7056

WHEREAS, during her time as a Kingsport Police Department volunteer, Mrs. Ford received the Special Recognition and Outstanding Volunteer Service awards, and she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2004; and WHEREAS, aside from her professional accomplishments, Valerie Ford is most grateful for the love and support she shares with her family; she moved to Kingsport following the retirement of her husband, David, and was a Navy wife for nineteen years. She is the proud mother of two beloved children; and WHEREAS, the success of the State of Tennessee, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of our society depend, in great measure, on the dedication of people such as Valerie Ford who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; and WHEREAS, Valerie Ford is wholly committed to the noble precepts of public service that have earned Tennessee recognition as the Volunteer State, and she should be specially recognized; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Valerie C. Ford for her honorable and astute service to the good people of Tennessee and our nation and extend to her our best wishes for continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
