HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 7041

A RESOLUTION to commend and congratulate Carson Starritt,
national award winner of the READ 180
program.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should salute those Tennesseans who, through their extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as young leaders who bring great pride to this State; and WHEREAS, one such exemplary individual is Carson Starritt, a fourth-grade student at
New Center Elementary School, who recently became the first student from Sevier County to
win the national award for outstanding growth and achievement in the READ 180 program; and WHEREAS, created by the Scholastic Corporation and currently operated by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, READ 180 is a reading intervention program that utilizes adaptive technology to
provide differentiated instruction for a diverse classroom; and WHEREAS, the program focuses on reading components such as phonemic awareness,
phonological awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension, giving students the tools they need to improve reading performance and set them on the path to becoming successful readers; and WHEREAS, Carson Starritt's noteworthy achievement in the READ 180 program is a tremendous source of pride for his family, his school, and his community, all of whom are deeply proud of this remarkable young man and his determination; and WHEREAS, Carson has distinguished himself as a young Tennessean of whom we can all be proud, and it is most fitting that we applaud his recent national honor; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE

CONCURRING, that we commend and congratulate Carson Starritt, the first student from Sevier County to win the national award for outstanding growth and achievement in the READ
180 program, and extend to him our best wishes for a happy and successful future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
