SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 7001

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of James Boyce Polston of
Harriman.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the passing of James Boyce Polston; and WHEREAS, James Polston was an exemplary public servant and consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in
numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, fondly known by close family and friends as "Buddy," Mr. Polston was born to Tasco and Mary Polston on May 17, 1937, on his family's farm in Harriman; and WHEREAS, as a boy, he learned to farm his family's land, which he cherished, and he
worked on that same land for his entire life, possessing a deep love for his farm and cattle; and WHEREAS, he earned an undergraduate degree from Tennessee Technological University and a master's degree from the University of Tennessee; and WHEREAS, James Polston proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army; he later taught woodworking at Rule High School in Knoxville, and he worked for the plants in Oak Ridge, retiring from K-25 after twenty-six years as a Roads and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor; and WHEREAS, Mr. Polston was also deeply devoted to his family, and he always endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; and WHEREAS, he is survived by his daughters, Tisha Grigsby and Tammy Guge; his twin sister, Helen Joyce Brooks; grandsons, Cody (Ashley) Guge and Brett (Emilye) Guge; great-
grandchildren, Grayson Guge, Isaiah Guge, Silas Guge, and Keelye Guge; son-in-law, Gary Guge; and a host of friends and loved ones; and WHEREAS, in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife,
Barbara Ann Gilmore; his sister, Nancy Allstun; and his son-in-law, Eric Grigsby; and SJR7001

WHEREAS, Mr. Polston leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in
public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all his chosen endeavors; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of James Boyce Polston,
reflecting fondly upon his impeccable character and his stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Polston.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
