HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 7004

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Rodger Dale Weakley of
Maryville.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the passing of Rodger Dale Weakley; and WHEREAS, Mr. Weakley was a highly respected member of his community and a consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, the son of Harold and Dovie Weakley, Rodger Weakley was born in
Walland on October 7, 1943; and WHEREAS, Mr. Weakley honorably served his nation as a member of the U.S. Army and completed a tour of service in Germany; and WHEREAS, after his military service, Rodger Weakley began an illustrious teaching career; an extremely talented and compassionate educator, he worked assiduously to motivate his students to reach their full potential, both as scholars and as citizens; and WHEREAS, Mr. Weakley was an active and devout member of Oakview Baptist Church,
where he served faithfully for many years as a teacher, youth leader, and deacon; and WHEREAS, he was also deeply devoted to his family, and he always endeavored to
remain true to family values of the highest order; and WHEREAS, Rodger Weakley enjoyed the loving companionship of his wife of fifty-six years, Mary Ann Weakley; also left to cherish his memory are his sister, Teresa LeQuire; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kathy Weakley and Mark and Tammy Weakley; daughter and son-in-law, Tonde and Andy Carter; grandchildren, Kayla Weakley, Shane Weakley, Brandon Weakley, Collin Carter, Faith Castleman, and Kaelee Carter; and great-grandchildren, John Carter and Roy Carter; and HJR7004

WHEREAS, in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Vada Gregory Graham; and WHEREAS, Mr. Weakley leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in
public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all his chosen endeavors; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should pause to remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Rodger Dale Weakley, reflecting fondly upon his impeccable character and his stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Weakley.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
