House Joint Resolution 353 honors Dr. Katherine Y. Brown for receiving the Martin E. Simmons Award from the American Heart Association at the Nashville Heart Gala. The resolution highlights Dr. Brown's significant contributions to the healthcare profession, particularly her dedication to educating the public about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). As the founder of Learn CPR America, she has trained over 300,000 individuals for free, emphasizing the importance of CPR in emergency situations, especially since 90% of cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals.
In addition to her work with CPR education, Dr. Brown leads the Dr. Katherine Y. Brown Leadership Academy, which focuses on developing global leaders, and founded the Roberta Baines-Wheeler Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Group in memory of her mother. Her extensive volunteer work with the American Heart Association spans over two decades, and she is recognized as a dedicated public servant and community advocate. The resolution expresses the General Assembly's commendation for Dr. Brown's achievements and contributions to public health and safety in Tennessee.
