SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 283

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Alice Edith Smith Human.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the passing of Alice Edith Smith Human; and WHEREAS, Alice Human was an exemplary public servant and consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for her fellow citizens in
numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Human served with acumen and alacrity in several positions throughout the years, earning the respect of her peers and superiors alike for the exemplary quality of her work as an employee of the Burlington Hosiery Mill and a longtime teacher's aide at Central Elementary School; and WHEREAS, she committed to her faith early in life at Crab Orchard Baptist Church in
Oakdale, and she later became a devout member of South Harriman Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Human was also deeply devoted to her family, and she always endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Human will be sadly mourned but fondly remembered by her beloved husband of sixty-nine years, Maynard Human; her sons, Gary Human and Basil Human; her grandson, Christopher Human; her nieces, Barbara Morrison, Rhema Alley, and Sandy Goldston; and her nephews, Ronnie Silvey and Burt Smith; and WHEREAS, she was preceded in death by her parents, George Henry and Margaret Lucinda Brown Smith; her sisters, Delia Holly and Ann Silvey; her brothers, Virgil Silvey and B.J.
Smith; and her nephews, Billy Holly and Ray Silvey; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Human leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in
public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all her chosen endeavors; and SJR0283

WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Alice Edith Smith Human,
reflecting fondly upon her impeccable character and her stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mrs. Human.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
