ON FEBRUARY 12, 2024, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 996, AS AMENDED.
AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to add to provisions relative to family life instruction that instruction in topics related to sexual activity are not age-appropriate for students in any of the grades K-5 and must not be taught to students in any of the grades K-5 as part of a family life curriculum. However, this new provision does not prohibit an LEA or public charter school from providing instruction to students in any of the grades K-5 on the detection, intervention, prevention, and treatment of child sexual abuse and human trafficking in which the victim is a child.
