HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 95

A RESOLUTION to honor David Leatherwood upon the occasion of his retirement.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should salute those citizens who, through their extraordinary efforts, have made our communities better and distinguished themselves as community leaders of whom we can all be proud; and WHEREAS, one such estimable person is David Leatherwood of Hixson, who is this year taking his much-deserved retirement from the grocery industry in Hamilton County, where he has rendered quality service to generations of satisfied customers and built strong friendships during his fifty-two-year tenure; and WHEREAS, Mr. Leatherwood's illustrious career began in June 1969, when he accepted employment with Red Food Stores in Chattanooga as a courtesy clerk; he then advanced to
cashier, grocery clerk, night manager, and assistant manager; and WHEREAS, in 1980, he was promoted to store manager at the Rivermont location and subsequently served in that same position at the Red Bank store before being transferred to the Hixson Pike store in 1983, during which time a dear friendship developed with Robert and Shirley Tucker; and WHEREAS, during his career, Mr. Leatherwood witnessed Red Food Stores' merger with BI-LO in 1995 and the 2015 acquisition of all the Chattanooga and North Georgia stores by
Food City; and WHEREAS, respected and admired by his peers and colleagues, David Leatherwood was named Store Manager of the Year in 1985, received the Outstanding Achiever Award in
2008, earned the Presidents Club Award in 2012, and has been included in the Million Dollar Earner Club multiple times; and HJR0095

WHEREAS, a vital part of his community, Mr. Leatherwood is a former president of the Hixson Youth Athletic Association, an active member of the North River Chamber of Commerce,
and a 2008 inductee of the Hixson High School Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, a devoted husband and father, David Leatherwood enjoys the love and support of his wife of forty-three years, Debbie, and their four children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; and WHEREAS, David Leatherwood epitomizes the spirit and commitment that are characteristic of a true Tennessean; and WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly find it appropriate to acknowledge and applaud David Leatherwood for his many contributions to the State of Tennessee and its citizens; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
TWELFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor and commend David Leatherwood upon his fifty-two years of
meritorious service in the grocery industry and extend to him our best wishes for continued health and success in his retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
