HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1016

A RESOLUTION to congratulate Peggy and Sidney Gibson on the celebration of their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly take great pleasure in paying tribute to those successful marriages that have stood the test of time to serve as exemplars for present and future generations; and WHEREAS, on December 19, 1959, Sidney Gibson and Peggy Brown were joined in
holy matrimony at Glenwood Baptist Church, and since that fateful day, this outstanding couple has faced the world as one, basking in the glow of their love for each other during both life's joys and sorrows; and WHEREAS, the Gibsons have been highly respected citizens of the Oak Ridge community for many years; they are the very epitome of good neighbors, as they always endeavor to treat others as they would like to be treated; and WHEREAS, Sidney Gibson was born in Mississippi and moved to Oak Ridge with his family when his parents found employment with the Manhattan Project; and WHEREAS, similarly, Peggy Brown's family moved from South Carolina to Oak Ridge around the same time, as her parents had also found employment with the Manhattan Project;
and WHEREAS, the pair met in high school, through Peggy Brown's sister, fell deeply in
love, and later married; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gibson was drafted into the military, and he bravely served his country during the Berlin Crisis of 1961; Mrs. Gibson remained in Oak Ridge, where she raised the couple's first child, Charlie; and HJR1016

WHEREAS, after a year of service, Mr. Gibson returned to Oak Ridge; after serving in
several different positions throughout the years, he decided on a career in management for a trucking company; and WHEREAS, in 1964, the couple's second child, a daughter named Ellen, was born; and WHEREAS, over the next twenty years, the Gibsons moved to several places throughout the South for Mr. Gibson's career in the trucking industry; they returned to Oak Ridge in the 1980s, where they have remained ever since; and WHEREAS, in 2015, Mrs. Gibson retired from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities after twenty-five years of service; after an early retirement, Mr. Gibson bought Lane's Laundry,
which he operated for many years; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Gibson have been faithful and active members of the Glenwood Baptist Church for many years, serving the church in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, they are the loving parents of Charlie and Ellen, the devoted grandparents of five grandchildren, and the treasured great-grandparents of four great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, for sixty years, this blessed union has grown and prospered as an expression of time-honored family values and selfless love; and WHEREAS, marriages such as the Gibsons' are truly the rock-solid foundation upon which our society is built and a beacon of sanity and continuity in these turbulent times; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
ELEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we hereby honor and congratulate Peggy and Sidney Gibson on the celebration of their sixtieth wedding anniversary and extend to them our best wishes for much continued happiness in the years to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
