HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 998

A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Martha Moseley Akin on the celebration of her 105th birthday.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should pay tribute to those citizens who are celebrating special occasions in their estimable lives; and WHEREAS, Martha Moseley Akin celebrated her 105th birthday on March 3, 2020, a milestone commemorated as yet another precious souvenir of life's rich pageant; and WHEREAS, the daughter of Pete and Lena Elam Moseley, Mrs. Akin has lived her life with the utmost integrity and ability, and her work ethic and moral character have inspired her fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, a graduate of Greenfield High School, Martha Akin went to work at her aunt's boutique clothing shop, The Style Shop, upon graduation; and WHEREAS, in 1945, she was joined in holy matrimony with Joe Akin, and the couple's blessed union produced three children, Ellen, Dane, and Carol; six grandchildren; eleven great-
grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, when Mr. Akin became a self-employed deliveryman of Sealtest Milk, Mrs.
Akin kept books for the business while she raised their three children; after her husband's untimely passing in 1970, she went to work as a seamstress and clerk at Remnant House, and she later served as an assistant librarian at the Greenfield Library, where she worked until she was seventy-six years old; and WHEREAS, in her 105th year, Mrs. Akin enjoys keeping up with the news, admiring her orchid blooms, working crossword puzzles, reading, and drinking coffee; and WHEREAS, we wish to grasp this golden opportunity to specially recognize one of
Tennessee's most outstanding citizens on this very special occasion; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
ELEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we hereby honor and congratulate Martha Moseley Akin on the celebration of her 105th birthday and extend to her our best wishes for many happy returns of the day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
