By Haile AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section
49-6-412, relative to career aptitude assessments.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-6-412(b), is amended by adding the following as a new subdivision:
(3) It is the legislative intent that, subject to appropriation in the general appropriations act, the department of education annually receive sufficient funds to
procure and implement a statewide career aptitude assessment program. If sufficient funding is appropriated to the department to procure and implement a statewide career aptitude assessment program, then the department shall make the career aptitude assessment program available to local education agencies at no cost.
SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-6-412, is amended by adding the following as a new subsection:
(c) Guidance counselors are encouraged to use the results of the career aptitude assessments administered to students under subsection (b) to discuss potential career opportunities and aligned educational pathways with students.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
