This legislative commemoration honors Ashlan Carlow-Blount, a senior at Mahpya Lta High School and a member of the Oglala Lakota tribe, for her outstanding achievements in athletics, academics, and leadership. Ashlan has demonstrated exceptional dedication, earning First-Team All-State honors in basketball, being named the Most Valuable Player at the Lakota Nation Invitational twice, and leading her team to multiple championships. In addition to her basketball accomplishments, she has excelled in track and field and cross country, achieving a Class A State Championship in the 300-meter hurdles and earning numerous regional titles.
Academically, Ashlan has maintained high standards, becoming a member of the National Honor Society and receiving the U.S. President's Academic Excellence Award. She has excelled in advanced coursework and has received Division I collegiate scholarship offers, committing to attend the University of South Dakota. The commemoration recognizes her as a role model who promotes Lakota culture and inspires her peers and community through her leadership and mentorship.
