This legislative commemoration honors the life and contributions of Barbara Dull Knife, a respected Lakota elder known for her dedication to child welfare and community service. Over her seventeen-year career as a child welfare advocate and victim witness advocate with the United States Attorneys Office in Rapid City, she demonstrated remarkable generosity and strength. After retiring, she founded Wakanyeja Gluwitayan Otipi, the only emergency safe house for children up to twelve years old on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Additionally, she served two terms on the Oglala Sioux Tribal Council and was a founding board member of the Global Institute for Traditional Sciences.
