This bill appropriates $125,000 from the general fund to the Department of Transportation for a study focused on statewide transit needs and the economic impacts of public transit in South Dakota. The study aims to evaluate the contributions of public transit to workforce availability and its effects on Medicaid spending, institutional placement, and healthcare utilization. The Department of Transportation is required to present its findings and recommendations to the Executive Board of the Legislative Research Council by November 30, 2026.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that the secretary of the Department of Transportation will approve vouchers for expenditures authorized by this Act, and any unspent funds will revert according to established procedures. The Act is set to take effect on June 30, 2026.
