This bill introduces a new section to South Dakota's election laws that prohibits candidate campaign committees and political action committees affiliated with state officials from accepting contributions from certain state employees. Specifically, the bill restricts contributions from employees who are either the head of a department or agency, the highest-paid employee in that department (excluding the head), or those who report directly to the state official. The term "state official" is defined to include the Governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, auditor, treasurer, attorney general, commissioner of school and public lands, a commissioner with the Public Utilities Commission, or a member of the Legislature.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that it will take effect on January 1, 2027. This legislation aims to enhance the integrity of political contributions by preventing potential conflicts of interest between state officials and their employees.
