This bill mandates the display of the South Dakota state motto, "Under God the People Rule," in all public schools. The motto must be prominently displayed in locations such as entryways, cafeterias, or other common areas where students are likely to see it. The display can take various forms, including mounted plaques or student artwork, as determined by the school principal.

Additionally, the bill amends existing law to ensure that the attorney general provides legal representation at no cost to school districts, employees, or school board members in the event of lawsuits or complaints arising from the display of the state motto, as well as the national motto. The state will also cover any related expenses, including monetary damages and attorney's fees, that may be incurred due to such legal actions.
